Want a Job in Fashion Merchandising? How You too Can Be a Superstar Like Tory Burch.

Tory Burch has it all...She has a fabulous company "Tory Burch", which has only been in business for four years and projected sales are around $200 million for this year. In addition, Tory Burch stores are popping up all over and are looking to go global! She has an impeccable eye for crisp, clean and classy apparel, shoes, bags and accessories. Before Tory became a fashion superstar, she had to start at the bottom and work her way up the ladder. She spent most of her pre-“Tory Burch” days working in PR for companies such as Harper’s Bazaar, Ralph Lauren and Vera Wang. My advice to you...take baby steps by getting jobs at great companies first and learn as much as possible before you leap!

Remember Op "Ocean Pacific"...it's Back!

Op was a huge “everybody has to have it” brand back in the day. Something happened to Op as the years went by, it died. Somehow Op went astray while other young & hip retailers such as, Abercrombie and Urban Outfitter’s flurished. Op has been in and out of many different retail chains ever since, but never really were able to make the line as successful as it once was. Now, Iconix Brand Group, owners of Op, is trying it once again. Iconix Brand Group is the powerhouse behind the brands Bongo, Joe Boxer, London Fog and Badgley Mischka. Iconix has launched a celebrity powered ad campaign including, singer Christina Milian, Demi Moore’s daughter Rumer Willis, former “Laguna Beach” star Kristin Cavallari and “That 70’s Show” star Wilmer Valderrama. The newly launched Op will be in Walmart stores everywhere.

If you are interested in a job in fashion merchandising, brand advertising, fashion marketing or public relations…check out http://www.iconixbrand.com/join_team.asp

Is Hillary Clinton Wearing the Right Colors?

As a women candidate for the President of the United States, all eyes will be on Hillary Clinton when it comes to her fashion choices. Yes, it's true there are men candidates; however, voters are not as concerned about their attire compared to Hillary’s. We all know it isn’t too difficult to make a fashion faux pas with a navy or black suit, unless they should pair it with a neon green tie, right? Hillary has a much more difficult task on hand. She has to make the right choices (of course she has a team of experts to help), she, unlike the men, cannot wear a navy or black power suit everyday, because the public would view her as wearing the same outfit day after day. Hillary has to keep her attire fresh, maintain a sense of style and chose the correct colors based on each events magnitude. With that, none of us are in limelight quite like Hillary. However, we need to treat our clothing choices just as serious as she does. When it comes to a job interview colors such as, black, navy or taupe, are all great for a suit, just make sure to accent your suit with a more sharp and memorable color like pink, royal blue or green. Remember, a first impression is one of the most important elements to getting a perfect job!

Burberry & Louis Viutton Hire Great People!!

Designer labels are very important to many consumers. Think about all the well know and established brands such as, Louis Vuitton, Coach, Hermes, Dolce & Gabbana and Burberry. These brands have been a staple in the high-society scene for many years. However, without a tremendous staff of innovative designers these labels would not have been as successful throughout the years. Brands like these and many others are always looking to hire fresh, chic and savvy pioneers to keep their label and marketplace looking unique and original. If you are interested in entering into the design world, make sure your portfolio has beautiful, creative and most of all sellable pieces to share during your interview.

Yikes! I Graduated College and Don't Have a Job Yet!

After graduating college my biggest fear came true, I didn’t have my dream job with a six-figure salary lined up, and even worse, I didn’t even have a job. I really wasn’t even sure what I really wanted to do with my Business Marketing degree. I knew I loved advertising, consumer studies, products, marketing and of course shopping. I quickly learned it takes a while to find the perfect job. I also discovered many companies out there give the wrong impression to recent college graduates. Take note: If you are in a waiting room with 10 other potential candidates, being interviewed with others as a large group, or asked to write down names of your friends & family, this job is probably some sort of scam or marketing ploy. All professional interviews will be scheduled with the hiring manager and done on a one-on-one basis. They might interview more then one person in one day, but never as a collective group of candidates. The best way to avoid a possible hiring scam is to apply to established and well-known companies. Check out Fabulous Jobs Job Board, to see companies hiring in your area.

J.Crew is on Fuego!

J.Crew has become one of the most popular brands in the marketplace today. With the addition of their “Weddings & Party” Collections in the past few years, their children’s collection “Crew Cuts”, and most recently a luxurious luggage line has joined the J.Crew Collection. And on top of all of the wonderful new products they have added…they launched a new chain of stores under the name “Madewell”. J.Crew’s brainchild Madewell, is geared towards a slightly younger audience and still has the fashion forward quality as the J.Crew label. J.Crew Corporation’s vastly expanding products and new store developments have proven to be a profitable investment, their Quarter 4 performance resulted a 9% increase in top-line and & margin growth.*(*info from WWD)

Great on Paper...Terrible in Person!!

A fabulous resume will help get your foot in the door to interview you for your dream job position; however, it would be such a tragedy if you were to arrive not looking as clean and sophisticated as your resume represents. Anybody can have a strong and professional resume, but it takes a unique person to arrive looking chic, refined and confident. For example, an exaggerated example nonetheless, look at Amy Winehouse, on paper she is a Grammy Award winning singer and song writer, she has sold millions of albums…But, have you seen her lately? She looks and acts like a total train wreck! Who would ever hire her if she were to represent their company? Now, I doubt you will ever arrive looking as dreadful as her, but take note of yourself before you leave for the big interview. First of all, make sure you have dressed appropriate for the position you are interviewing for, i.e. if you are interviewing for a Fashion Director position with a well known Magazine, make sure to dress with the latest trends on the market. You would show the interviewer you can represent the company in a classy and fashionable way. Second, practice you non-verbal communication skills; try not to cross your arms, smile, sit-up strait in your chair, and walk with your shoulders proud! Finally, be self-assured and take pride in your resume and your accomplishments, the interviewer will be please how positive you are about yourself.

A Perfect Resume Gets Your Foot in the Door....But That is It!

While you work on your perfect resume to make your background shine, don't forget the most important part...your interview! The interview process can be nerve-wracking, but have no fear, you can be guaranteed your dream job if you nail your interview. Here are a few interviewing tips to land your fabulous career.

*Have complete confidence in yourself and your accomplishments

*Dress like you are already a complete success

*Practice makes perfect…go to a couple of interview with companies you do not have too much interest in working for, this will help perfect your skills

*Ask the interviewer some questions about their background, find some interest you have in common, i.e. love skiing, traveling, same sorority

The most important thing to remember is the interviewer is looking for an employee they are able to make a connection with. Show the interviewer you can not only be a potential friend but also, a trusted employee.
